Personalised Education Ltd, trading as Solomon Group Education and Training Academy, was formed in 1993. As an innovative Maori TEO (Tertiary Education Organisation) Solomon Group is committed to empowering people to improve their quality of life and achieve their identified goals through educational programmes and focused support. Our services focus on the needs of the individual.
Solomon Group sees itself as a specialist in Literacy, Foundation Skills and ESOL, with close ties with other Tertiary Providers, Manukau Institute of Technology, local secondary schools, industry contacts, employers and social services.
Increased Foundation competence in New Zealanders will contribute to all three of the government’s goals for New Zealand:

As the Lead Provider for the Counties Manukau Youth Transition Service, Solomon Group is working to establish a service that meets the needs of young people in our diverse community. We work at a Strategic level with many government departments to gain support to ensure opportunities are available for youth to access this service, further training and employment.
The Youth Coaches support their clients in a variety of areas including education, employment, life plan, health and social services to ensure they access the services they need at appropriate times, to achieve their goals and have quality of life. This service works in co-operation with the community, Ministry of Social Development and the Manukau City Council.
Here Are Some Other Interesting Facts About Us
- In 2005 and 2006 Solomon Group was awarded the the “Best Small Business” category at the National Maori Business Awards. This is a picture of our trophy.
- Solomon Group currently employs 27 full time and part time staff as well as contracting organisations and personnel for the Manukau Youth Transition Service.
- Solomon Group contracts to the Tertiary Education Commission providing Literacy, Foundation and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) courses to learners at all levels. These courses are offered in both Manurewa and Panmure. We offer open entry to those clients who want to improve, and operate a “revolving door” policy wherein learners can join and exit when appropriate.
- Solomon Group contracts to the Ministry of Social Development (WINZ) providing literacy and ESOL services to hundreds of clients in Auckland. These short-term interventions are often the beginning of a meaningful pathway for clients.
- In 2004 Solomon Group was the first TEO to offer the Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) Foundation Education course off- site enabling greater community access for local students. The Level 3 Foundation was established in 2004. In 2006 Solomon Group is also offering this course at it’s second site in Panmure and we are investigating the opportunity to establish this course at other locations in the future. Students have all the benefits of bono fide MIT students, pay a quarter of the fee and exit with the same qualification.
- Solomon Group has a contract with the Ministry of Education to provide training for Speakers of Other Languages. These fee-paying students are on a full-time 36-week course, which is subsidised by the Government through EFTs funding.
- Solomon Group offers Literacy Night Classes in Manurewa utilising funding from the TEC Foundation Learning Pool. We are contracted to teach 50 students per term for
5 hours per week. This has been a great success with classes being overfilled and a long waitlist established.
- Solomon Group works with Employers to access Government subsidies which help to provide literacy in their workplace. Programmes are developed specifically to suit the requirements of the employer and the employee.
- Solomon Group is involved in adult learning research with the Ministry of Education under the “Learning for Living” project.
- The New Zealand Qualifications Authority completed a “Compliance and Effectiveness Audit” for Solomon Group in May 2005. The company was successful in achieving full compliance and on-going registration for the maximum period of three years – for the second successive occasion.
